Not much of a note from me to add to this one. I've been writing a lot lately about the domestic impacts of the War on Terror, so when Mehdi Hasan and team asked me for a 9/11 retrospective piece, this time I wanted to look at its foreign ripple effects—not on the actual war zones, but on other powerful states, and ones with varying relationships with Washington. You'll also see a bit of a personal reflection of the only trip I ever took to Israel, in December 2001, as a college student-journalist. Not really a wise decision given the proliferation of bombings at that time, but it was what it was. .
